Meet Allie and Owen
So Monica Barbaro plays Allie and Callum Turner plays Owen, and honestly the Barbaro Turner movie casting alone had people talking the second it was announced. You can see why.
Allie still believes in real connection, which in the current dating landscape is practically a radical stance. Owen just got out of something serious and he’s still a little lost, which is more relatable than most rom-com male leads tend to be. They meet in the city and there’s an immediate pull. The night, though, keeps throwing things in their way.
Missed moments, personal baggage, a city that genuinely does not care about your love life. That friction is what makes the One Night Only romantic comedy interesting. It’s not handing them anything.
New York City Like You’ve Never Quite Seen It
Gluck does something smart with the One Night Only NYC movie setting. It’s New York, but with the contrast cranked up a little. Familiar enough that it feels grounded, but just heightened enough that you buy into the idea that one single night could actually change everything.
The locations aren’t random either. Every spot Allie and Owen move through adds something. Crowded corners, quieter pockets of the city, places that feel like they only exist at 2am. The city has a personality in this One Night Only film, and it’s not a neutral one.
The Cast Makes It Work
The One Night Only cast goes well beyond the two leads. Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, and King Princess each bring something completely different to the table, which keeps the energy from ever flattening out. Ben Marshall and Ziwe are handling the comedy, and based on what’s in the trailer, they’re handling it well.
Then there’s Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton. That casting choice hits differently if you grew up on a certain era of romantic storytelling. It doesn’t feel like a gimmick. It feels like Gluck actually thought about what their presence would mean in a movie like this.
A Rom-Com That Gets It Right
The One Night Only 2026 movie isn’t trying to do too much. That’s actually one of its strengths. Will Gluck has always been better at this than people give him credit for, finding the line between funny and genuinely moving without letting either side tip too far.
