Zootopia 2 breaks box office records as the animated sequel officially secures its place in the record books. The film has become the highest grossing animated Motion Picture Association release of all time, surpassing Inside Out 2 and pushing itself into the top tier of global box office performers.

Around the globe, ticket sales have hit 1.7 billion dollars and are still rising. This places the movie ninth on the all time list. At Walt Disney Animation Studios, success like this shows they still know how to reach huge crowds. Their touch remains strong.

Zootopia 2’s record breaking global box office run

The numbers behind Zootopia 2 breaking box office records tell a remarkable story. In North America, the sequel has earned $390 million, while international markets have delivered $1.313 billion. China has been especially significant, where the film has become the highest grossing MPA release of all time with $619 million to date.

Those results make the movie the top global MPA release of 2025 and the biggest international MPA release of the year. It also reached the $1 billion mark faster than any animated or PG rated film before it.

Zootopia 2 boosts Disney’s animation legacy

What happened with Zootopia 2 pushed Disney even higher in animation records. Now the studio sits on top with the three biggest animated openings ever. First place goes to Zootopia 2, followed by Inside Out 2 just behind. Frozen 2 rounds out the trio at third spot.

Together, the two films in the Zootopia franchise have now generated more than $2.73 billion worldwide, a rare milestone for animated storytelling.

Audiences respond in a big way

What stands out is how well it played with crowds. Sitting at 96 percent fresh among verified viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, its mark came alongside an A grade from CinemaScore, proof regular people found plenty to like.

Right away, that energy showed up loud. On November 26, 2025, when the follow up film launched, it pulled in $559.5 million worldwide within just five days, making history as the top animated premiere ever. Not only did it become Disney’s highest grossing animation launch, it also claimed the year’s strongest global opening so far.

A new mystery for Judy and Nick

In Zootopia 2, rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde return to the center of the action. They are voiced once again by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, whose chemistry continues to anchor the franchise.

Things shift fast once Gary De’Snake steps into the animal city, shaking everything up. Ke Huy Quan gives voice to the role, bringing a fresh pulse to the film’s second chapter. Instead of working out in the open, Judy and Nick slip into disguise, diving into corners of Zootopia they barely know. Their teamwork gets pushed, strained by challenges neither expected.

Out front, Jared Bush and Byron Howard handle directing duties. Yvett Merino takes the lead as producer. Together, they reunite the core group responsible for the first movie’s Academy Award win.

Still playing across global cinemas, Zootopia 2 refuses to fade, holding strong amid its unfolding legacy.
