Sadie Sink embraces her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe knowing Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be only the beginning.
Her character could continue beyond Spider-Man and into other parts of the MCU, including the upcoming X-Men movie. That kind of commitment could keep an actor attached to a role for years. Sink didn’t have much hesitation about it. She had already spent years watching Marvel movies and was thrilled by the idea of actually appearing in one. For a longtime fan, the size of the commitment wasn’t going to get in the way.
Sadie Sink embraces her MCU future
Sink knew what she was getting into when she signed on. Marvel has been connecting its movies for years, and characters don’t necessarily stay in the franchise where they first appear. Somebody can show up in one movie and turn up somewhere completely different later, so Sink understood that accepting Spider-Man: Brand New Day could come with plans Marvel wasn’t ready to reveal yet.
That was perfectly fine with her.
When Sink spoke about joining the MCU, she talked about how much she’d enjoyed the Marvel movies before becoming part of them. There was still a little disbelief in the way she described the experience. She had watched these movies as a fan, and suddenly she was on the other side of the screen. She also knew this might be something she’d be doing for quite a while.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day brings Sadie Sink into another huge franchise
Of course, Sink already knows what it’s like to spend years playing the same character. She joined Stranger Things as Max Mayfield and remained part of the series as it became one of Netflix’s biggest hits. Along the way, she also started building a movie career outside Hawkins, including her performance with Brendan Fraser in The Whale.
Then Marvel came along.
Joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day put Sink into another enormous franchise, although this one comes with a different sort of future. Marvel characters can move between movies and franchises, and in Sink’s case, Spider-Man isn’t the end of the plan. Her character also has a connection to what Marvel is doing next with the X-Men.
That makes the Sadie Sink Marvel future potentially much bigger than one appearance alongside Spider-Man.
Sink was a Marvel fan before joining the MCU
That’s what makes Sink’s reaction to getting the role so much fun. She wasn’t coming into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as somebody unfamiliar with its movies or characters. She was already a Marvel fan.
For Sink, joining the MCU meant suddenly becoming part of something she’d enjoyed from the outside for years.
Instead of looking at a long Marvel commitment simply as years she might have to spend playing the same character, Sink was thinking about the fact that she had somehow gotten to join the MCU in the first place.
That enthusiasm also helps explain why the possibility of appearing in Spider-Man, X-Men and other Marvel movies down the road didn’t scare her away.
Sink knew Marvel could be a long commitment
Signing onto a Marvel role can be very different from accepting a part in a standalone movie. The MCU has always been built around characters crossing from one project into another, sometimes years after audiences first meet them.
Sink understood that.
Her role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day could potentially lead into a much larger MCU future, and she was willing to make that commitment.
For Sink, it was something she had wanted to be part of long before anybody offered her the opportunity. Now she’s in, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day may only be the first place audiences see her.
As Sadie Sink embraces that Marvel future, she’s doing it from the unusual position of somebody who already knows what it’s like to be a fan of the universe she’s now helping expand.
