Emma Stone Gets “Tough” With Upcoming ‘The Favourite’ Role

Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has received heaps of praise for his films The Lobster and more recently The Killing of a Sacred Deer. With The Favourite, Lanthimos‘ critical momentum should continue as it received an excellent reception as the opening film at the 56th New York Film Festival.

The early 18th century set plot centers on Queen Anne’s (Olivia Colman) friendship with Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz, who worked on The Lobster) and Sarah’s cousin Abigail (Emma Stone). Not content with being just a maid, Abigail wants to climb the career ladder by getting as close as possible to Queen Anne, leading to an inevitable clash with Lady Sarah Churchill.

Click on the media bar below to hear Stone share her thoughts on Abigail, a woman who has come from “tough stuff” and is ultimately a survivor.

The Favourite in in theaters now.
