Despite receiving critical acclaim for 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin, filmmaker Lynne Ramsay’s next film wasn’t an overnight process. Originally signed on to direct the Natalie Portman Western Jane Got A Gun, Ramsay left the project due to creative differences.
Ramsey bounces back, however, with the upcoming You Were Never Really Here, a feature that netted Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and Best Screenplay (Ramsay) awards at the Cannes Film Festival. The narrative, based on Jonathan Ames’ novel, centers on a veteran (Phoenix) who tracks down missing girls. When his latest job goes south, the vet does everything in his power to set everything straight, and as the trailer suggests he literally brings down the hammer on the perpetrators.
