Nelly and Ashanti have already lived a lot of their lives in front of people. Now they’re showing what happens after the wedding, after becoming parents and while both careers are still moving.
That’s really where Season 2 of Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together picks up.
There’s family stuff. Career stuff. Plenty of travel. And this season there’s also a bigger question hanging over both of them.
What do they want their legacy to look like?
For Ashanti, that means taking more control of her music. For Nelly, it means realizing that all those years on the road have taken a toll. And for both of them, it means thinking about what they want life to look like for their family.
Nelly and Ashanti both have a lot going on
There’s a lot on Ashanti’s plate this season. She’s raising her son, performing, working on new music and going back and forth between St. Louis and New York.
Then there’s her first album. Ashanti is re-recording it so she can take control of her masters. That’s a pretty big deal.
It gives the new season another side to her story because she isn’t just looking back at what she’s already done. She’s trying to take more ownership of it.
At the same time, she’s still making new music, working with other artists and finding time for the friends who help keep her grounded.
Nelly is starting to look at things differently
Nelly has spent a huge part of his life touring. That kind of schedule can catch up with anybody. And now he’s at a point where he’s starting to think more about what all those years of performing and traveling have done to him physically.
Being a husband and father changes things too.
There’s also an unexpected loss in the family this season that gets Nelly thinking about what really matters to him. So it sounds like viewers are going to get a more personal side of him this time.
Family is still a big part of the show
Of course, We Belong Together is still about Nelly and Ashanti trying to make their life work together. They’re raising their son, leaning on family and trying to keep everything moving while both of them still have demanding careers.
That’s probably the part most people can relate to. Maybe not the touring or recording albums part. But trying to juggle work, family and everything else? Yeah, that part is pretty universal.
They’re both thinking about what comes next
Season 2 seems to be about Nelly and Ashanti looking ahead.
Ashanti is thinking about ownership and her music. Nelly is thinking about his health, family and what years of touring have meant. And together, they’re trying to figure out what they want their future to look like.
