THE DEEP END airs Thursday nights on ABC.

KEVIN COSTNER’S ONES THAT GOT AWAY (HINT: THEY WERE BETTER THAN ‘WATERWORLD’)

Although KEVIN COSTNER’S epic DANCES WITH WOLVES netted him Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director in 1991, he didn’t fare as well in subsequent years — WATERWORLD and THE POSTMAN were two of the decade’s biggest critical bombs. Comparisons can be drawn between COSTNER and CLINT EASTWOOD; each excel at both acting and directing when given the right material. In fact, COSTNER gave one of his finest performances in EASTWOOD’S A PERFECT WORLD so it’s ironic that UNFORGIVEN was one project COSTNER had tried for years to do himself. He also had another Oscar-winner in his sights — SHINDLER’S LIST — until STEVEN SPEILBERG stepped in. COSTNER has spent most of his career following his instincts. His most recent directing/acting project, OPEN RANGE, was an inspired effort and even last year’s SWING VOTE is considered an overlooked picture. Here, COSTNER reflects on a couple of his career’s “could’ve beens”. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR BELOW)
