Blu-Ray Spotlight: Noomi Rapace Holds Action Keys With ‘Unlocked’

unlocked5Although it featured a couple of wonderfully choreographed action scenes, the spy thriller Atomic Blonde was a bit of a disappointment. Flying much more under the radar was Unlocked, a thriller headlined by Noomi Rapace that, unlike the aforementioned film, hits the target.

Rapace plays Alice Racine, a talented CIA interrogator who is haunted by a terrorist attack in Paris. Determined to make up for what she believed was her own failure to complete a mission on time, Racine attempts to stop an impending attack on London. Michael Douglas, Toni Collette and John Malkovich serve as her superiors in various departments (Douglas is her mentor and close friend), and they help Alice on her perilous mission. Orlando Bloom co-stars as a thief who also joins Alice, but he might have motivations of his own.

Noomi Rapace, seen earlier this year in What Happened to Monday, does a great job as the determined agent and she once again proves she’s adept at handling dramatic and action sequences. Michael Apted, a veteran craftsman who also directed the James Bond feature The World Is Not Enough, was also the perfect choice to direct Unlocked. Filled with a ton of action and more twists than your average pretzel, Unlocked is a flick that’s definitely worth a look.

The Blu-ray version comes with a 13-minute featurette on the making of the film and has interviews with Apted, Rapace, the producers, and the rest of the supporting cast.

Noomi Rapace Sees ‘Unlocked’ As A Female Version of Jason Bourne

rapace5

Fresh off a tour de force performance in What Happened to Monday, Noomi Rapace is back once again in the action thriller Unlocked. The story centers on Alice Racine (Rapace), a London based case worker who’s pulled back into the CIA after her mentor (Michael Douglas) discovers an imminent terrorist threat. Along with an ex-soldier named Jack (Orlando Bloom), Alice is in a race against time to stop a biological attack in London. Michael Apted, the director behind the 1999 James Bond flick The World Is Not Enough, directs.

“Unlocked is a spy thriller but not at all what you would expect,” said Rapace. “It takes turns and twists that are completely unpredictable which I love. It’s fun – it’s brutal. It’s very raw. I always wanted to do like a Jason Bourne (type of film) but a female version. She’s a little bit of a sister to Jason Bourne I would say.

In Unlocked, Michael Douglas plays a high ranking CIA agent who brings back a protege (Noomi Rapace) to help him take down a terrorist. Along with the aid of an ex-soldier (Orlando Bloom), the trio attempt to stop a biological attack on London. Michael Apted, director of the James Bond flick The World Is Not Enough, is behind the camera.

“I love stories where you can’t guess the ending and this particular quality of Unlocked I liked a lot” said Douglas who cites the 7 up documentary series and Coal Miner’s Daughter as among his favorite Apted movies. “What separates it as a spy thriller is this amazing female lead. I don’t think I’ve seen any in the genre that has had a female lead, in particularly as one as strong as Noomi both as an actress and as an action lead.”
