Action Packed ‘Tomb Raider’ With Alicia Vikander Hits Blu-Ray In June

Tomb Raider, a featuring starring Alicia Vikander taking on the role of Lara Croft, hits Blu-ray and DVD June 12 via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. One of feature’s biggest draws, along with Vikander, is director Roar Uthaug is adept at crafting character driven, humanistic stories within an epic canvas. His previous feature The Wave exemplified the merging of micro and macro style storytelling, and hopefully those elements are featured in Tomb Raider (we’ll be reviewing this title closer to its Blu-ray release). Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Kristin Scott Thomas and Daniel Wu round out the ensemble.

Tomb Raider special features include four featurettes (“Tomb Raider: Uncovered,” “Croft Training,” “Breaking Down the Rapids,” “Lara Croft: Evolution of an Icon”) that center on the making of the movie. The DVD version comes with the “Tomb Raider: Uncovered” segment.

Alicia Vikander Takes On “Bad Ass Being” Role With Tomb Raider

tombraider4

It was the director Alex Garland’s taught sci-fi thriller Ex Machina which turned Alicia Vikander’s career around, and in the ensuing years she received an Oscar nod for her work in The Danish Girl and starred in the underrated drama The Light Between Oceans.

Tomb Raider is yet another big challenge for Vikander, since she not only takes on the shoes filled by original franchise star Angela Jolie, but she also has the responsibility of doing justice to adventurer Lara Croft. Millions of gamers and cinephiles are waiting to see if Vikander has the right stuff to pull off the role. One of the many great news is the film is directed by Roar Uthaug, the Norwegian filmmaker who received heaps of praise for his excellent and refreshingly character 2015 disaster feature The Wave.
