‘Fifty Shades Freed’ Dominates Box Office With $38 Million Debut

Even though it’s not a critical darling and succeeds more on its camp factor, Fifty Shades Freed was the overwhelming leader at the box office with a $38.8 million debut weekend. Fellow newcomer Peter Rabbit also enjoyed an excellent outing with a second place finish and a $25 million take. Although Clint Eastwood’s critically drubbed The 15:17 to Paris was #3 with just $12.6 million, it was made for a reasonable $13 million. Here’s the top 10:

1. Fifty Shades Freed – Score another win for cinematic lovebirds Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan! $38.8 million

2. Peter Rabbit – $25 million

3. The 15:17 to Paris – $12.6 million

4. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – It makes $9.8 million this weekend and currently it’s collected over $365 million domestically.

5. The Greatest ShowmanHugh Jackman musical makes $6.4 million. Budgeted at $84 million, it’s collected over $146 million domestically.

6. Maze Runner: The Death Cure – $6 million

7. WinchesterHelen Mirren thriller earns $5 million

8. The Post – $3.5 million

9. The Shape of Water – Oscar favorite collects another $3 million.

10. Den of ThievesGerard Butler and 50 Cent action flick holds on to the top ten with $2.87 million

‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Recaptures #1 Box Office Spot With $11 Million

1193687 - JumanjiHelen Mirren’s haunted house feature Winchester couldn’t stop Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle for the top spot at this weekend’s box office. With Jumanj: Welcome to the Jungle making just $11 million, it was a tame Super Bowl weekend for movie watchers (Maze Runner: The Death Cure and Winchester finished at the #2 and #2 spots). Here’s the top 10:

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – Tops all comers with $11 million and to date it’s made over $352 million stateside.

2. Maze Runner: The Death Cure – $10.2 million

3. WinchesterHelen Mirren thriller takes in $9.2 million in its debut weekend.

4. The Greatest ShowmanHugh Jackman led musical continues to do solid business with $7.8 million.

5. Hostiles – $5.5 million

6. The PostSteven Spielberg’s latest checks in at number six with $5.2 million

7. 12 Strong – $4.7 million

Meryl Streep Isn’t Interested In Her ‘Net Worth’

Meryl StreepWhen we look back at Meryl Streep’s career, we see the defining actress of a generation. She earned the first of her 21 first Oscar nomination for 1978’s The Deer Hunter and has won three times — a feat surpassed by only one actor in the history of Hollywood. Streep can tie Katharine Hepburn if she wins her fourth, since she’s nominated again for her role in Steven Spielberg’s The Post. ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ Is Box Office Champ With $23 Million Weekend

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE

Dylan O’Brien has another hit on his hands, as Maze Runner: The Death Cure debuted at the #1 spot with $23.5 million. Coming in at second was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($16.4 million), which already has made over $338 million domestically. The Christian Bale Western Hostiles checked in at third with $10.1 million. Here’s the box office top 10:

1. Maze Runner: The Death Cure – $23.5 million

2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – $16.4 million

3. Hostiles – Excellent Western will hopefully make more money on good word of mouth. It earns $10.1 million this weekend.

4. The Greatest Showman Hugh Jackman led musical checks in at #4 with $9.5 million

5. The Post – Director Steven Spielberg’s latest collaboration with Tom Hanks earns $8.8 million.

6. 12 Strong – $8.6 million

7. Den of ThievesGerard Butler and 50 Cent crime drama makes $8.36 million.

8.  The Shape of Water – Critically praised Guillermo del Toro flick, which should take home a ton of Oscars, collects $5.7 million

9. Paddington 2 – $5.5 million

10. Padmaavat – Indian film cracks the top 10 with $4.27 million
