‘The Avengers’ Cleans Up At Weekend Box Office

avengers-movieBreaking all existing records for a three-day opening weekend, THE AVENGERS took in an estimated $200.5 M, making it far-and-away the box office champ. In the No. 2 position, THINK LIKE A MAN continued to hang tough with $8 M. Coming in third, THE HUNGER GAMES managed a healthy $5.7 M and, rounding out the top five are THE LUCKY ONE ($5.5 M) and PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS ($5.4 M).
Written and directed by JOSS WHEDON, THE AVENGERS features an extensive ensemble cast that includes CHRIS HEMSWORTH, ROBERT DOWNEY JR., SCARLETT JOHANSSON, JEREMY RENNER, CHRIS EVANS, MARK RUFFALO, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, GWYNETH PALTROW and CLARK GREGG. There’s little doubt that it was WHEDON’S deft handling of his source material that made the film such a success and, at the recent press conference to promte the movie, ROBERT DOWNEY JR. sang his praises. Best Selling Author Nicholas Sparks Admits It Takes Compromise To Go From Page To Screen

500x_sparks_beach_couplesCurrently riding high on the weekend box office chart, THE LUCKY ONE is a deeply romantic drama centering on a Marine vet returning to the States from his third tour of duty in the Middle East determined to find the anonymous woman pictured in a photograph he found and credits with his still being alive. Based on the novel by NICHOLAS SPARKS, the film is directed by SCOTT HICKS from an adapted screenplay by WILL FETTERS and stars ZAC EFRON, TAYLOR SCHILLING, BLYTHE DANNER, ADAM LEFEVRE, JAY R. FERGUSON and RILEY THOMAS STEWART.

‘The Lucky One’ Author Nicholas Sparks Is A Fabulous Writer: Just Ask Him

books-by-nicholas-sparksAs an internationally known, best-selling author whose novels MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, A WALK TO REMEMBER, THE NOTEBOOK, NIGHTS IN RODANTHE, DEAR JOHN, THE LAST SONG and, now, THE LUCKY ONE have all been adapted for the big-screen, NICHOLAS SPARKS has brought tears to the eyes of millions of moviegoers and readers.
Now, to the more pedestrian reader, SPARKS might be mistaken for a writer of “romantic fiction” or “romantic fantasy” but, during our recent interview, the author was quick to point out that his novels are most definitely neither and should be considered “literature” because they contain many of the same elements of SHAKESPEARE and HEMINGWAY. Will Fetters Admits There Was A Method To The Madness Of Rewriting ‘A Star Is Born’

will-fetters-a-star-is-born-sliceIn theaters soon, screenwriter WILL FETTERS’ big-screen adaptation of NICHOLAS SPARKS’ bestselling novel THE LUCKY ONE, stars ZAC EFRON and TRACY SCHILLING as star-crossed lovers. It’s not FETTERS’ first time at the romantic rodeo: he wrote the 2010 tear-jerker REMEMBER ME and just turned in his script (to director CLINT EASTWOOD) for the planned remake of the classic show biz love story A STAR IS BORN. Trying to rewrite one of the most iconic stories in romantic film history may sound like a crazy idea but, during our recent interview, FETTERS admitted that, in the movie biz, sometimes you have to give a little to take a little.
