Thor:Ragnarok, one of 2017’s most successful films with a $845 million worldwide box office take, hits Blu-ray, Digital, DVD and On-Demand March 6. For viewers looking for a peak viewing experience, The Ultimate Cinematic Universe Edition is featured in 4K Ultra HD with high dynamic range (HDR) and Dolby Atmos audio.
One of Thor: Ragnarok’s many strengths was its ability to blend comedy within the darkest of storylines (the possible destruction of Asgard by Thor’s nemesis Hela, played by Cate Blanchett). Credit goes to Hunt for the Wilderpeople filmmaker Taika Waititi for turning the film into the franchise’s finest hour (thoughThor: The Dark World is woefully underrated).

Special features on the disc include deleted and extended scenes, audio commentary from Taika Waititi, a gag reel, a plethora of featurettes, and a look at the film’s climactic battle scenes via a retro game format (the segment is titled “8bit scenes”).
One of the reasons why I’m predicting Thor: Ragnarok will be the finest installment of the series lies is director Taika Waititi knows how to craft human relationships amidst fantastical concepts. Hunt for the Wilderpeople was one of last year’s finest films as it deftly mixed comedy and tragedy within an intriguing narrative.
The latest trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which debuted at this year’s Comic-Con, features the aforementioned tone balance which made Hunt for the Wilderpeople such a unique experience. Hela (Cate Blanchett), though she has a ton to live up to thanks to Tom Hiddleston’s scene stealing run as Loki, seems to be a marked improvement over bland baddie Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) from 2013’s Thor: The Dark World.

Thor: Ragnarok, co-starring Mark Ruffalo and Jaimie Alexander, opens nationwide November 3!
Though the first two Thor films were well received and box office hits, they are not exactly considered as the best movies Marvel has to offer. Expectations have been immeasurably heightened with the teaser trailer release of Thor: Ragnarok, probably thanks to its not subtle Guardians of the Galaxy vibe.
That being said, kudos to director Taika Waititi for showcasing Chris Hemsworth’s comedic abilities with this Thor installment, and maybe this time around the hammer wielding god won’t play second fiddle to Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Cate Blanchettlooks terrific and terrifying as Hela, the goddess of death who seemingly lays waste to Asgard (and Mjölnir!), and it’s great to know that Idris Elba is back as the underutilized Heimdall (hopefully Elba has more scenes this time around).
Valkyrie, one of my favorite characters from the Marvel Universe, is also part of the film, and hopefully Thompson nails the part. A former member of The Defenders (she’s not part of the group in the upcoming Netflix series), Valkyrie is known for her warrior skills and mettle. Hopefully Valkyrie gets her chance to shine in a sea of crowded superheroes (including the Hulk!) and villains.
If you haven’t checked out the teaser, it’s a great one with the promise of a wonderful showdown at the end.
