‘3, 2, 1…Frankie Go Boom’ Serves As Reminder That Ron Perlman Has Comedy Chops

frankie-go-boomCurrently in select theaters and available via VOD, 3,2,1…FRANKIE GO BOOM is an off-beat, quirky comedy involving two distinctly different brothers, a faded movie star, a transgendered ex-con, a sex tape and a pig. Written and directed by JORDAN ROBERTS, the film features SONS OF ANARCHY stars RON PERLMAN (in full drag, no less) and CHARLIE HUNNAM as well as CHRIS NOTH, NORA DUNN, CHRIS O’DOWD, LIZZY CAPLAN, ADAM PALLY and WHITNEY CUMMINGS.
Because of his powerful starring role in the hit FX series SONS OF ANARCHY, fans tend to forget that PERLMAN is no stranger to comedic roles as well. During our recent interview, he reminded us that he got his start in comedy.

Currently available via VOD (and set for theatrical release next month), 3, 2, 1…FRANKIE GO BOOM is a quirky romantic comedy centered on a hapless young man trying to overcome the aftereffects of being the lifelong butt of his boorish older brothers’ jokes. Written and directed by JORDAN ROBERTS, this off-beat film features SONS OF ANARCHY stars RON PERLMAN (sporting a stylish look) and CHARLIE HUNNAM (playing very much against type) as well as CHRIS NOTH, NORA DUNN, CHRIS O’DOWD, LIZZY CAPLAN, ADAM PALLY and WHITNEY CUMMINGS.
We caught up recently with HUNNAM and CAPLAN to talk about the new film and were pleasantly surprised that HUNNAM was willing to take a moment to reveal that his hit FX series, SONS OF ANARCHY, has been given the okay for two more seasons and that the network is even looking forward to a commitment to extend that.

We sat down with PERLMAN and ROBERTS last week to talk about the movie and it was obvious that the same guy who plays former Samcro leader Clay Morrow on S.O.A. got a kick out of donning a frock for FRANKIE. (WARNING: LANGUAGE NSFW)

DULE HILL WANTS FANS TO “PSYCH” YOURSELF UP FOR A “TWIN PEAKS” REUNION

There are plenty of cool guest stars and unusual plotlines scheduled for Psych coming up during the new season.

According to Dule Hill, who stars as Burton Gus Guster on the series, the longer the series stays on the air, the stronger the names are of actors appearing on the show.

“It’s really been a wonderful journey to have these actors come in and play off of us,” Hill begins adding, “Overall, we’ve had some good guest stars even from the first season, but if you look at the consistency over each season, we getting definitely more well-known guest actors and more unique coming up willing and wanting to do the interesting roles.”

Tonight’s episode is no exception, though it could have easily been scheduled as their Halloween show (had Psych been back on the air at the time Hill claims). Nora Dunn from Saturday Night Live fame, joins Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Hill) for a murder-mystery with a cartoonish twist.

“We kind of go into a Scooby-Doo world,” Hill says. “It’s the closest you’ll see Shawn and Gus be part of the Scooby-Doo gang. [Dunn] had a lot of fun on the show…a lot of laughs. She’s good at doing improv stuff and so is James Roday, so they would play off of each other a lot.”

The December 1st story features the cast of Twin Peaks, nearly 20-years after that quirky show ended its run. It’s a full-blown reunion for the stars of the series with a definite homage to the outrageous stories that were a staple of the freaky mystery show.

“I think the fans and the viewers will really enjoy that episode. “I think James Roday and (Executive Producer) Bill Callahan did a great job a Twin Peak-esk script,” he acknowledges. “Plus, having all those actors come, it was great to be part of the process. Some of those actors hadn’t seen each other in 15 to 20 years. Some of them hadn’t seen each other since the show ended. It was great to see them reconnect and kind of pick up where they left off on our show.”

And Hill says expect to be amused.

“I think there are a lot of laughs on that show and people who are fans of Twin Peaks will really get a kick out of watching that episode.”

Hill knew Psych would have a following, but he could never imagine they’d still be on the air five-plus seasons later.

“I thought if we were allowed to be on the air for a while we’d come up with some funny, really interesting things to do,” he reminisces. “But, I never thought we’d be doing the Twin Peaks episode or having the guest cast that we have every week, or being able to jump around and roll as much as we do. It’s been a terrific ride.”

Psych airs Wednesdays, 10:00 p.m. ET on USA Network.
