‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Teaser Trailer Debuts With “Wonderful” Entrance

Mary Poppins was released in 1964, so the wait for a sequel has been a long time coming. The teaser trailer to Mary Poppins Returns, featuring Emily Blunt as the titular character, has debuted and while Poppins doesn’t make an appearance towards the end of the 95 second clip, it is still a must see video.

For one, we get to see Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda navigate a kite and Mr. Banks (Ben Whishaw) softly exclaim “Mary Poppins, it is wonderful to see you.” Blunt immediately replies to the couple (Emily Mortimer plays Mrs. Banks) “Yes it is, isn’t it?” while looking at herself in the mirror.

It will be hard to match Julie Andrews’ iconic performance as Mary Poppins, but Blunt is more than capable of putting her own spin to the character. Co-starring Dick Van Dyke and Meryl Streep, Mary Poppins Returns is set for a Christmas release. Check out the teaser trailer and tell us what you think!

Emily Blunt: ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Properly Honors The Original

Mary Poppins ReturnsIt takes a lot to rain on a Mary Poppins fan’s parade. (After all, they have umbrellas!) But for many, dark clouds gathered on the horizon when Walt Disney Pictures announced they would be making Mary Poppins Returns. We admit it — we were skeptical ourselves. After all, the role of Mary Poppins is so closely associated with Dame Julie Andrews, who won an Oscar for her performance, that it seems sacrilegious to let another actress play the character. We give Emily Blunt credit for her courage, knowing she’s following in the hallowed footsteps of a true legend, and she believes people will be quite pleased with the film and the way it pays homage to the original.

Mary Poppins Returns will open in theaters on Christmas 2018.

52 Years Later, Will A ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel Fly?

M4DMAPO EC003It’s been over five decades since Julie Andrews graced the big screen as Mary Poppins, a classic which garnered her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Since the film’s release back in 1964 there have been numerous rumors of a sequel in the works. All those rumors have been put to rest as Walt Disney Pictures has officially announced Mary Poppins Returns, a sequel set to be released December 25, 2018. Emily Blunt will play the iconic role of Mary Poppins with Rob Marshall, who directed the Oscar winning musical Chicago, behind the camera.

After the initial release of Mary Poppins, the studio was pushing for a sequel with Julie Andrews reprising the role. A few years ago, we spoke to Dame Andrews who told us the studio decided it wouldn’t be a good idea, and she agreed with their final verdict.

While we very much like Emily Blunt who seems to be a great fit to reprise Mary Poppins, is it a good idea to make a sequel to the iconic film? You be the judge give us your thoughts!
