Timeless centers on the adventures of three individuals (Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Abigail Spencer) who travel back in time to ensure the safety of the Earth. A deadly organization named Rittenhouse is rewriting history in an attempt to bend reality to their own whims, and it’s up to these individuals to keep our world from going sideways.
Spencer has had an educational time playing history professor Lucy Preston. “I’m so much smarter since I started shooting the show,” said Spencer. Playing Lucy makes me seem so much smarter than I am, which is great. It’s been very interesting because every episode is a history lesson. I’ve learned about facets of history that I didn’t know existed.”

Timeless has its season two premiere on Sunday, March 11 (NBC, 10/9c).
Timeless is literally going gangster tonight with the episode “Public Enemy No. 1” as Flynn (Goran Visnjic) is working with Al Capone (Cameron Gharaee) in 1931 Chicago. Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter), and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) have an ace on their side, however, as Elliot Ness (Misha Collins) helps them in attempting to stop Flynn.
“His main objective still is to bring his family back,” said Visnjic. “But as he goes through more and more things – the things he does obviously is not what he was planning. He didn’t plan on becoming a ravaging psychopath who is doing all these crazy things but he constantly questions himself (and) . . . he’s really trying hard not to do that but he’s so infatuated with this idea that he can do this.”
Speaking of doing things that one doesn’t plan for, Visnjic has been getting his feet wet with social media. Timeless airs Monday evenings on NBC (10 pm et/pt).
Malcolm Barrettstars as Rufus, one of the time traveling heroes on the freshman NBC series Timeless. Along with giving fans an entertaining experience, the program is also dedicated in spotlighting various historical moments and facts that may not be heavily documented.
During our interview with Barrett, he talked about how social media is an important aspect of keeping the Timeless dialogue continuing after the show airs. “I am knee deep in Twitter,” says Barrett. “I’m very responsive, I will say something to you in any particular way. It’s great to see those conversations because genre shows have rabid fans. I’m a sci-fan and a nerd. I went to Comic-Con two years before I was invited as a guest. I’m happy to enter these conversations and I completely understand where they’re going with it. The beauty of a genre, sci-fi, and a fantasy show is it allows your imagination to go. With a forum like Twitter and all these sorts of social media it allows people to share all their fantasies and imaginations together.”

Playing Lucy Preston, an adventurous history professor turned time traveler, is one of the many reasons why Timeless has been a creatively gratifying experience for Abigail Spencer, and during our interview she also gave credit to the work of the show’s producers.
“First it starts with our creators Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke,” says Spencer, who describes them as a ‘creme de la creme’ pairing.’ “Shawn Ryan has created The Shield and many other shows and Eric Kripke (created) Supernatural. They’re kind of a genre explosion in (and of) themselves and they work so well together too. It’s like My Two Dads (laughs). I get the best of both worlds with them. So that was a huge and compelling for me.”
Whether it’s meeting Ian Fleming in the flesh or witnessing the assassination of President Lincoln, Timeless is filled with bucket list (and heroic) moments for Lucy. That being said, Spencer also loves the show’s exploration of the characters’ personal lives.

The new series Timeless centers on the time travel adventures of a scientist (Malcolm Barrett), historian (Abigail Spencer), and soldier (Matt Lanter). A team-up with top notch producers/scribes Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield), the show may have its share of bells and whistles, but its main draw lies in its storytelling.
Lanter loves the “adventurous spirit” that’s infused within Timeless’ universe, and Barrett adds that the human element was another aspect which drew him to the program.
“These guys make sure that no matter what’s going on, no matter how many explosions, no matter how much butt-kicking or sci-fi effects you see, we’re always dealing with something very much grounded in real life emotion,” said Barrett of his collaboration with Kripke and Ryan.
Barrett, born and raised in New York, has always been a sci-fi fan. Click on the media bar below to hear why Timeless is a “perfect fit” for him.
Timeless, co-starring Goran Visnjic, airs Monday evenings on NBC.
