CinemAddicts Podcast Takes On ‘Detroit’ And ‘Logan Lucky’

Steven Soderbergh went on a self-imposed hiatus from directing feature films (his last effort was 2013’s Side Effects), but now he’s back with the August 17 release Logan Lucky. The project once again features a collaboration with Channing Tatum (who starred in Side Effects and Magic Mike), and it features a return of the heist element featured in Soderbergh’s Ocean Eleven films. This time out,two brothers (Adam Driver,Tatum) who attempt to abscond with money from a NASCAR race in North Carolina. Riley Keough, who delivered a standout performance in last year’s American Honey, and a scene stealing Daniel Craig co-star.

Coming out August 4 is Columbus, an indie film that centers on a Korean American named Jin (John Cho) who travels to Columbus, Indiana after his architecture scholar father slips into a coma. Haley Lu Richardson gives her finest performance to date as the youth who strikes up a friendship with Jin. Reminiscent of such walking and talking films like Before Sunrise and Lost in Translation, Columbus is a filled with beautiful visual compositions from up and coming filmmaker Kogonada and excellent work from the two leads.

Also covered on the latest episode of CinemAddicts is Detroit and the recent Blu-ray release Black Butterfly. Take a listen below for our August movie preview!!

‘Magic’ Channing Tatum Covers People Mag As ‘Sexiest Man Alive 2012’

people-mag-channing-tatumJoining the exclusive club that includes the likes of MATT DAMON, GEORGE CLOONEY and BRADLEY COOPER, the star (and inspiration) of this year’s box office hit MAGIC MIKE, CHANNING TATUM, has just been revealed as People Magazine’s latest cover boy and recipient of the title SEXIEST MAN ALIVE.
Currently in training to play an Olympic athlete in the upcoming feature FOXCATCHER, TATUM looks every bit the part of a contemporary sex symbol. There are many who’ll assume that the fetching star’s participation in MAGIC MIKE (as a stripper with a heart of gold) is what landed him this title but, during a recent interview, he confided to us that stripping is anything but sexy. Joey Lawrence Recalls Dancing With Chippendale And His ‘Magic Mike’ Period

melissa-joey-key-artAiring tonight on ABC Family, MELISSA & JOEY is the popular sitcom centered on a single woman politician charged with the care of her niece and nephew and the ‘manny’ she hires to manage the kids and household. Created by DAVID KENDALL and BOB YOUNG, the show stars MELISSA JOAN HART, JOEY LAWRENCE, TAYLOR SPREITLER and NICK ROBINSON.
A former child actor who fans have literally watched grow up on their TV screens, JOEY LAWRENCE has transformed from a wise-cracking mop-topped kid to a buffed, cut, hunky male sex symbol who, earlier this year, stepped in as a celebrity guest star to join the Las Vegas troupe of the internationally famous Chippendale dancers. During our recent interview at the Television Critics Association, he talked about what he jokingly referred to as his ‘Magic Mike’ period.

A new episode of MELISSA & JOEY airs tonight on ABC Family

‘Ted’ Takes Box Office Pole Position, Beats ‘Magic Mike’ For #1 Spot

The G-string strutting, ab crunching movie stars of Magic Mike couldn’t beat Ted, as Seth MacFarlane’s raunchy comedy (which is headlined by former Calvin Klein underwear model Mark Wahlberg) took in $54.1 million.  Don’t feel sorry for Magic Mike, as the Steven Soderbergh directed drama, which continues Channing Tatum’s “magic” year (sorry, but I had to!), also had a stellar showing with $39.1 million.  Here’s the top 10:

1.  Ted – $54.1 million

2.  Magic Mike – $39.1 million

3.  Brave – $34 million

4.  Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection – $26.4 million

5.  Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted – $11.8 million

6.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – $6 million

7.  Prometheus – $4.9 million

8.  Moonrise Kingdom – $4.9 million

9.  Snow White and the Huntsman – $4.4 million

10.  People Like Us – $4.31 million
