Though the series hasn’t been a huge rating hit for NBC, the comedy Superstore has consistently drawn raves from critics. Based on the goings-on at a fictional big-box retail chain, the show boasts one of the larger ensemble casts you’ll see on a sitcom. With the sheer number of actors on the set, you’d think it would be difficult for the cast to gel, but Lauren Ash — who plays the store’s assistant manager — told us we’d be surprised at how quickly their chemistry developed. Superstore’s third season continues, with new episodes airing on Thursday nights at 8/7c on NBC.
Three seasons in and Superstore continues to grow as a show, and as a Newsweek article accurately pointed out, the program spotlights a huge section of America that is underrepresented in comedy. Filled with a diverse cast spearheaded by America Ferrera andBen Feldman, the show, which centers on the lives of a St. Louis, Missouri “superstore” named Cloud 9, subtly sneaks in important topics amidst all the comedy (for reference, check out the episode “Health Fund”).
Another reason for the show’s success lies in the chemistry among the ensemble. Ferrera and Feldman have that all important spark, and co-stars Lauren Ash and Nico Santos are also great friends off the set.
