Kiefer Sutherland Discovers The Perils Of Being ‘Designated’ President

Being President of the United States is a huge responsibility — especially when you’ve got the job on TV. Many actors have played the commander-in-chief on the small screen, but few have approached it with the intensity of Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Tom Kirkland on Designated Survivor. Since Kirkman was thrust into the Oval Office under unexpected, tragic circumstances, Sutherland understands that his president comes with a certain amount of pain and sacrifice. Sutherland can at least take solace in the fact that his Designated Survivor wife lasted a half-season longer than his 24 wife, right? New episodes of Designated Survivor air Wednesday nights at 10/9c on ABC.

‘Flatliners’ Revived: Was It Worth Bringing Back?

Lately, Hollywood’s been mining its own past, rebooting or remaking old titles as entirely new movies. The results, however, have been disappointing. New versions of Footloose, Ghostbusters, Red Dawn and Total Recall have not lived up to the originals, either critically or commercially, and even the last few Superman movies have been poorly received. That hasn’t kept the studios from trying, though. The latest attempt? A reboot of Flatliners, the 1990 thriller that starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt. Sutherland returns to the movie in his original role, joined by Ellen Page, Diego Luna and Nina Dobrev. The plot is essentially the same: A group of medical students perform “near death” experiments, but the results take a very dark turn. Take a look at the trailers for both trailers — the 1990 and 2017 versions — and let us know which one you think looks better.

Flatliners opens in theaters September 29.

How Kiefer Sutherland Learned Nice Guys Finish First

Kiefer Sutherland is, without a doubt, one of the primary reasons for the success of ABC’s political thriller Designated Survivor and his old show, 24. President Tom Kirkman and Jack Bauer are both characters that require a strong, confident presence, and Sutherland plays both to perfection. Of course, part of it is acting, but part of it is hard-wired into Sutherland’s persona. He’s one of the most affable, confident people in Hollywood, especially when it comes to interacting with fans or the press. He told us he learned a very valuable lesson about talking to people in the aftermath of his very painful, very public breakup with Julia Roberts back in the 1990s. (Click on the media bar below to hear Kiefer Sutherland)

From Protector To Prey: Kiefer Sutherland’s ‘Survivor’ Switch

144657_1074-349x524After a long winter break, Designated Survivor has returned to ABC’s Wednesday night lineup, so we’ll once again see Kiefer Sutherland starring as President Tom Kirkman on the political drama.  Of course, Sutherland spent many years protecting political leaders (and all of America) as CTU agent Jack Bauer on 24. So the irony that he’s now the one who needs protecting is not lost on him.  (Click on the media bar below to hear Kiefer Sutherland)

Designated Survivor airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c on ABC.

Kiefer Sutherland’s Back In The Game With A ‘Designated’ Hit

After taking time off from television Emmy award winner, Kiefer Sutherland has found another hit series starring as the president on the ABC political thriller Designated Survivor.

Playing the iconic character Jack Bauer on the hit series 24 made him one of the biggest television stars in the world. After the long run of playing Jack Bauer which includes him returning for the 24 mini-series 24: Live Another Day, Sutherland wasn’t looking for another television series.

Though 24 was a great creative experience for Sutherland, he was reluctant to once again return to television. Once he read the script for Designated Survivor the idea of inventing another great character that could evolve as the show progressed once again intrigued him.. Designated Survivor, co-starring Natascha McElhone, airs Wednesday nights 10/9c. on ABC.
