Not wanting to overstay its welcome, The Good Wife signed off last spring after seven seasons on CBS. And even though the final season was its lowest-rated, nearly 11 million faithful viewers still tuned in every week. So, when it was announced that a spin-off series would be produced, many of those fans had the same question: Have we seen the last of Alicia Florreck, the character played by two-time Emmy winner Julianna Margulies?
With the start of The Good Fight just over a month away, we asked Robert King — co-creator, producer, and writer for both shows — whether Margulies and her character would figure into the storyline of the new series. (click on the media bar below to hear Robert King)
The Good Fight premieres on the CBS All Access streaming app on February 19.
The CBS hit drama The Good Wife is one of the best television shows on the air. Every week, there seems to be twists and turns with the characters, as the show never lets its loyal viewers stay complacent for too long. From week to week, fans are dying to know what will happen next. But if you ask Good Wife star Julianna Margulies, she will tell you just the opposite; that the fans in her personal life and the fans she encounters in public really don’t want to know too much about what will happen next. Sometimes surprises aren’t meant to be spoiled! (Click on the audio bar below to hear Julianna Margulies)
Returning for its sixth season tonight on CBS, THE GOOD WIFE opens where season five left off, with Eli (ALAN CUMMING) asking Alicia (JULIANNA MARGULIES) if she’d consider running for State’s Attorney (her philandering husband’s (CHRIS NOTH) old job). Meanwhile, as Diane (CHRISTINE BARANSKI) considers leaving Lockhart/Gardner to join Florrick/Agos, a major crises threatens to destroy the firm. And, while its hard to imagine that this season could produce the kind of jaw-dropping twist we saw last season, the premiere indicates that fans are in for some treats.
As Alicia Florrick, Emmy Award-winning JULIANNA MARGULIES brings an understated quality that allows her to say more with a ‘look’ than with a paragraph of dialog. During a recent press conference to promote the show, she talked about playing the role. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
Season six of THE GOOD WIFE debuts tonight on CBS.
The CBS drama The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies, is now in its fourth season and continues to be one of the best dramas on television. The series has earned many accolades, including several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Margulies became one of the biggest actresses on television starring for six season as Nurse Carol Hathaway on the NBC medical drama, ER. Very rarely do actors and actresses find another successful series to star in. Margulies told us that she had no idea that The Good Wife would be such a big success. Airing tonight on CBS, the Season 3 finale of the hit drama THE GOOD WIFE promises to answer several questions while posing several more as a set up for Season 4. Joining regulars JULIANNA MARGULIES, JOSH CHARLES, CHRIS NOTH, CHRISTINE BARANSKI and ARCHIE PANJABI, recurring guest stars MICHAEL J. FOX, MARTHA PLIMPTON and MATTHEW PERRY will be adding interesting intrigue to what may just mark the reunion of the titular character with her formerly philandering husband.
A terrific blend of courtroom procedural and family drama, THE GOOD WIFE has consistently offered cable quality not always found on network television. At the Television Critics Association press conference to promote this season’s shows, MARGULIES talked about what most pleases her about doing this series. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
