Though he voiced Po in Kung Fu Panda 3,Jack Black’s last live action features were 2015’s Goosebumpsand The D List. The good news is he’s back in 2018 with The Polka King, the true story of Polish immigrant Jan Lewan’s (Black) pursuit of the American Dream.
Unfortunately, those goals were not met via honest and hard work as he created the world’s only known Polka Ponzi scheme. Lewan’s life story was previously spotlighted in the 2009 documentary The Man Who Would Be Polka King, and this version should shine a bigger spotlight on Lewan’s colorful (and criminal) life. Maya Forbes (Infinitely Polar Bear) and Wally Wolodarsky (Seeing Other People) are the co-writers and directors of The Polka King, with Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, J.B. Smoove and Willie Garson rounding out the cast. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!
Hosted by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s JB Smoove, Last Comic Standing returns with three new judges (Russell Peters, Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans) who definitely know their craft. This season will feature the top 100 comics in the U.S. trying out for the top 20 spots. The winner of Last Comic Standing will receive an NBC talent deal and a scripted project that will be developed by Universal Television.
The two hour premiere for Last Comic Standing, which is executive produced by Wanda Sykes (who’s also a Curb vet) is set for tonight (NBC, 9 pm et/pt).
In the video below, Roseanne Barr and Russell Peters talk about the importance of nailing down a four and a half minute stand-up routine, no matter what level of experience the comic possesses.
