David Oyelowo Finds “Delight” In Comedic Playground of ‘Gringo’

David Oyelowo (A United Kingdom, Selma) hangs hit hat on dramatic fare, and with his latest film Gringo the talented actor goes the comedic route. Directed by Nash Edgerton, Gringo centers on a pharmaceutical company manager named Harold (Oyelowo) who is tasked by his bosses (Joel Edgerton, Charlize Theron) to ensure a business transaction in Mexico. The trip, however, doesn’t go as planned and Harold is immediately thrust into a world of chaos .

“It was a complete delight to do something lighter,” said Oyelowo. “And something that was also challenging in a different way. There’s a misconception that comedy as opposed to more dramatic work is easier or not as testing when it comes to whatever talents you have. I found this to be a wonderful challenge. Not (just) because it had comedic elements but it has elements of action. It has drama to it. With the way we did it there is a social commentary element as well.”

Gringo opens nationwide March 9.

‘Jack Reacher’ Creator Lee Child Admits More Than Just A Little Debt To Sherlock Holmes

jack_reacherOpen in theaters this weekend, JACK REACHER is inspired by the best selling pulpy franchise by author LEE CHILD and centers on a lone-wolf vigilante with a very strong sense of what’s right and what’s wrong. Written and directed by CHRISTOPHER McQUARRIE, the cast includes TOM CRUISE (bearing very little physical resemblance to the novel’s description), ROSAMUND PIKE, RICHARD JENKINS, DAVID OYELOWO and WERNER HERZOG.
For whatever reason, CRUISE opted out of last weekend’s promotional press conference, leaving PIKE, OYELOWO, McQUARRIE and CHILD to fend for themselves. Responding to one reporter’s question regarding REACHER’s literary roots, author CHILD admitted there is a bit of a nod to the legendary SHERLOCK HOLMES. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
