Celebrated Animated Flick ‘Coco’ Hits Blu-Ray And DVD In February

Coco, which was named Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards, hits Blu-ray and DVD February 27. To date, the flick has made over $626 million worldwide and holds the distinction of being the highest grossing film in Mexico.

Along with spotlighting Día de los Muertos and having an engaging, family centric storyline, the picture also contains the memorable tune “Remember Me” (from Frozen team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez).

The Blu-ray version comes with a plethora of featurettes, deleetd scenes with introductions from director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina, as well as audio commentary from the filmmakers and producer Darla K. Anderson. The DVD version contains the filmmaker commentary and the featurette “Dante.”

‘Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle’ Captures Box Office Throne With $36 Million

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was the #1 film over the weekend as it made $36 million to beat out newcomer Insidious: The Last Key (#2, $29.3 million). Star Wars: The Last Jedi was #3 with $23.5 million. Here’s this weekend’s top 10:

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – $36 million

2. Insidious: The Last Key – $29.3 million

3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Flick makes $23.5 million and it’s made over $572 million domestically!

4. The Greatest Showman – Musical toplined by Hugh Jackman amasses $13.8 million.

5. Pitch Perfect 3 – $10.2 million

6. Ferdinand – $7.7 million

7. Molly’s Game – $7 million

8. Darkest Hour Gary Oldman is getting Oscar buzz for his work as Winston Churchill. This weekend it takes in $6.3 million.

9. Coco – One of 2017’s best films collects $5.5 million.

10. All the Money in the World – Director Ridley Scott’s latest film takes in $3.5 million.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Takes In Whopping $220 Million At The Box Office

The force was strong with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as the flick took in $220 million, an opening figure that was only surpassed by December 2015’s release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Coming in light years behind was the animated flick Ferdinand with $13.3 million. Here’s the top 10:

1.  Star Wars: The Last Jedi – $220 million

2. Ferdinand – $13.3 million

3. Coco – It makes $10 million and it’s grossed over $150 million domestically.

4. Wonder – $5.4 million

5. Justice League – On the heels of Wonder Woman’s success, this flick has performed below expectations. It earns $4.1 million this weekend.

6. Daddy’s Home 2 – $3.8 million

7. Thor: Ragnarok – Budgeted at $180 million, this Marvel flick has amassed over $306 million domestically. This weekend it collects $2.9 million.

8. The Disaster Artist – $2.6 million

9. Murder on the Orient Express – $2.47 million

10. Lady Bird – Indie darling, directed by Greta Gerwig and headlined by Saoirse Ronan, rounds out the top 10 with $2.1 million

‘Coco’ Beats Box Office Comers With $18 Million Weekend

Don’t expect Coco to be the #1 film next week with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but for now the animated flick is ruling the roost with an $18.3 million weekend. Justice League was #2 with $9.6 million. Here’s this weekend’s top 10:

1. Coco – To date, the film has made over $135 million domestically. It collects $18.3 million this weekend.

2. Justice League – $9.6 million

3. WonderJulia Roberts drama takes in $8.5 million and crosses the $100 million domestic mark.

4. The Disaster Artist – Acclaimed comedy-drama from director/star James Franco makes $6.4 million.

5. Thor: Ragnarok – $6.2 million

6. Daddy’s Home 2 – $6 million

7. Murder on the Orient Express – This Hercule Poirot mystery has done well domestically with over $91 million amassed. It makes $5.1 million this weekend.

8. The Star – $3.7 million

9. Lady Bird – $3.5 million

10. Just Getting StartedMorgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones comedy bombs with a miserable $3.2 million debut.

‘Coco’ Continues Dominant Box Office Run With $26 Million Weekend

The critically acclaimed animated flick Coco beat Justice League for the top spot at the box office as it made $26.1 million. Justice League ($16.6 million) and Wonder ($12.5 million) rounded out the top films. The top ten:

1. Coco – $26.1 million

2. Justice League – $16.6 million

3. Wonder – Family drama headlined by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson continues to do well with $12.5 million. To date, the feature has collected over $88 million domestically.

4. Thor: Ragnarok – Flick makes $9.7 million this weekend and it’s grossed over $816 million worldwide.

5. Daddy’s Home 2 – $7.5 million

6. Murder on the Orient Express Hercule Poirot feature takes in $6.7 million and with just a $55 million budget, it’s collected over $210 million worldwide.

7. Lady Bird – One of this year’s most beloved films makes $4.5 million

8. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – $4.5 million

9.  The Star – $4 million

10. A Bad Moms Christmas – The Bad Moms sequel is closing in on $97 million worldwide. This weekend it earns $3.4 million domestically.
