Contrary to what we were originally led to believe, CHELSEA HANDLER won’t be doing a new talk show when she first appears on Netflix later this year. Addressing reporters at yesterday’s Television Critics Association press conference, HANDLER admitted that Netflix wasn’t ready for a nightly talk show and she decided to use the opportunity to, instead, write and star in a series of four feature-length documentaries under the umbrella title of ‘CHELSEA DOES…‘ (the four actual titles are ‘CHELSEA DOES RACISM‘, ‘CHELSEA DOES MARRIAGE‘, ‘CHELSEA DOES SILICON VALLEY‘ and ‘CHELSEA DOES DRUGS‘).
Speaking to the crowd, HANDLER said that, after seven years on E!, she was ready for a challenge because she ‘had to get my brain working again’. She was also very candid in saying that she doesn’t, at all, miss the grind of a daily show. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
The ‘CHELSEA DOES…‘ series will debut on Netflix later this year.
Already the star of her own sitcom (WHITNEY) and co-creator of the Fox-TV hit 2 BROKE GIRLS, writer-producer-comic WHITNEY CUMMINGS now adds “talk show host” to her resume with tonight’s debut of LOVE YOU, MEAN IT WITH WHITNEY CUMMINGS on the E! CHANNEL. Known primarily for her outspoken autobiographical (and often very blue) humor, CUMMINGS and side-kick JULIAN McCULLOUGH will take on favorite topics as well as welcome celebrity guests.
We sat down with CUMMINGS and McCULLOUGH recently and, although the show is produced by pal CHELSEA HANDLER, CUMMINGS promises their shows will be very different.

Available today on DVD and Blu-ray, THIS MEANS WAR is a pretty standard issue romantic comedy centered on two best pal CIA agents who both fall for the same girl. Naturally, given their government positions, sabotage and subterfuge take the place of candy and flowers in the search for true romance. Directed by McG from a screenplay by TIMOTHY DOWLING and SIMON KINBERG, the principal cast consists of REESE WITHERSPOON, CHRIS PINE and TOM HARDY, with support from CHELSEA HANDLER, LAURA VANDERVORT, ABIGAIL SPENCER, ANGELA BASSETT and DAVE KOECHNER. Sitting down for a studio generated interview, PINE describes his character as being a little bit like James Bond…but with a twist.(CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
Airing tonight on NBC, the first season finale of the bawdy comedy WHITNEY (titled SOMETHING BLACK, SOMETHING BLUE) has the titular commitment-phobe finally heading to city hall to tie the knot with live-in boyfriend, ALEX, only to run into complications that make the situation tough. Created by stand-up comic and CHELSEA HANDLER regular WHITNEY CUMMINGS, the series is basically a short-form romantic comedy based largely on her comedy monologues. Joining CUMMINGS in the cast are CHRIS D’ELIA, RHEA SEEHORN, ZOE LISTER JONES and MAULIK PANCHOLY.
While it seems likely that the network will renew WHITNEY for a sophomore season, the announcement still hasn’t been made. We spoke with CUMMINGS and D’ELIA at the Television Critics Association press event, where they discussed the kind of humor displayed on the show.

In theaters today, THIS MEANS WAR centers on the battle that ensues when two best pal CIA agents discover that they’ve fallen for the same girl. Naturally, given their government positions, sabotage and subterfuge take the place of candy and flowers and the film becomes more bromance than romance. Academy Award-winner REESE WITHERSPOON has been a big-screen staple for over 20 years and tells us that, while she considered several options to properly display her Oscar, she ultimately took a practical approach .
