Christina Aguilera Says Shakira Did a Beautiful Job on The Voice

The Voice (NBC/Mark Seliger)

Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are back after they both took a hiatus last season on The Voice. For Aguilera, it was a break that she needed to have.

“I had to step away,” said Aguilera. “2010 I joined the show and it was a time when I sort of dive into something else outside of myself. It was like this train that just kept gaining and gaining and gaining more viewers as each season wore on and I needed a moment to step away. Thank god for Shakira – she did a beautiful job (just) sweet, lovely energy and (also) lovely for the show.

Cee Lo Green admits that watching The Voice as a viewer was “awkward and intriguing at the same time.”

Christina Aguilera Looks Forward To The Voice’s “Second Show” of Laughter

THE VOICE (NBC, CR: TRAE PATTON)Although Usher and Shakira did excellent jobs as replacement coaches, it’s great to see the band back together for the upcoming season of The Voice.

Christina Aguilera, who describes her colleagues as a “family,” is looking forward to working with the singers as well as sharing a few laughs with the coaches.

“It actually is like a family, I don’t want to be a cliche or corny when I say that,” said Aguilera. “But I was actually looking forward mostly besides of course being able to coach (and work with) fresh talent (but also) having a laugh with these guys. I sit next to Blake and he keeps me laughing all day long and there’s a second show behind the scenes of the show (laughs).”

‘Sparkle’ Producer Believes Remakes Can Serve To Improve The Originals

orig-sparkleIn theaters this week, SPARKLE is based on the 1976 cult classic of the same name directed by SAM O’STEEN and starring IRENE CARA, LONETTE McKEE, DWAN SMITH, PHILIP MICHAEL THOMAS and DORIAN HAREWOOD. Centered on three sisters who form a singing group, become Motown sensations and fall prey to all the pitfalls of fast fame and even faster company, the film holds a place of honor in the hearts of many moviegoers of  ‘a certain age.’ This time around, the script has been altered considerably and the film is helmed by SALIM AKIL with a cast that includes American Idol-winner JORDIN SPARKS, DEREK LUKE, MIKE EPPS, CEE-LO GREEN and (in her final role) WHITNEY HOUSTON.
Remaking cult classics is often a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” proposition that seldom manages to please everyone but, during our recent interview with producer DEBRA MARTIN CHASE, she explained that there are valid reasons for wanting to take on the challenge.
