OLIVER STONE: WILL W WATCH W?

We managed to catch a screening of OLIVER STONE’s upcoming biopic, W, this morning before heading over to The Four Seasons for a press conference with STONE and his stellar cast.

The film is a blisteringly funny (yet somehow sympathetic) look at GEORGE W. BUSH’s rise to political fame and features a performance that will surely win an Oscar nomination for JOSH BROLIN.

OLIVER STONE talked about the possibility of BUSH seeing the film and expressed hope that he might. Listen in below:

TODAY IN MOVIE HISTORY: SONG OF THE SOUTH

On this day in 1946, Walt Disney Studios first screened SONG OF THE SOUTH, a live-action/animation full length feature set in the Old South and featuring the stories of JOEL CHANDLER HARRIS.

Even though it won an Academy Award (Best Song) the film was pulled from circulation after charges of racism were leveled against it.

The popular Disneyland ride SPLASH MOUNTAIN is based on this film. Below is a clip of star JAMES BASKETT singing the award winning ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH:

DVD RELEASES 10/7/08

THE HAPPENING (20th Century Fox  R  $29.99)  WOW…JUST WOW… Directed by M. NIGHT SHYAMALIAN and starring MARK WAHLBERG this sci-fi thriller is so bad as to be unwatchable. In fact, you may want to rent this just to see how bad it is. The plot involves some unknown force driving entire cities to commit mass suicide. Thirty minutes in, I knew just how they felt.

SLEEPING BEAUTY (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment  G  $29.99) WOW…JUST WOW. Now we’re talking dvd talk! Beautifully restored and remastered this Disney classic is truly a work of art. And, if you can do Blu-ray…….well, you may never leave the house.

YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment  PG-13  $34.95) ADAM SANDLER films are an ‘acquired taste’ that i’ve somehow failed to acquire. This overlong, unfunny slapstick stars SANDLER as a covert Israeli operative who longs to be a hairdresser in America. oy…..
