On This Day In Movies: A Spooky Holiday Gets Reborn With ‘Halloween’

halloweenOn this day in 1978 (34 years ago!!), a little company called Compass International released a little movie called HALLOWEEN and holiday horror history was made. Set in a small mid-western town on Halloween night, the tale of a rampant psychopathic killer (who may or may not be the incarnation of the boogie-man) started a parade of teen slasher films that continues to this day. The brainchild of writer/director JOHN CARPENTER, the HALLOWEEN cast included JAMIE LEE CURTIS, DONALD PLEASENCE, P.J. SOLES and TONY MORAN. Despite several sequels, a remake  and countless copy-cats, HALLOWEEN remains a fright-fest classic.

The original HALLOWEEN is available now on DVD

Not For The First Time Michael Keaton Steps Into A Fantasy Reboot

robocop-teaser-posterWord hit yesterday that MICHAEL KEATON has signed on the dotted line to replace HUGH LAURIE as corporate mogul Raymond Sellers in the upcoming ROBOCOP reboot. A re-working of the 1987 PAUL VERHOEVEN cult classic, shooting is scheduled to begin next month for an August 2013 release.
Under the direction of JOSE PADILHA, KEATON will be joining the already announced cast that includes JOEL KINNEMAN, GARY OLDMAN and SAMUEL L. JACKSON.
The last time MICHAEL KEATON stepped into a comic-book reboot, it was to take the titular role in director TIM BURTON’S 1989 game-changing classic BATMAN and the 1992 follow-up BATMAN RETURNS. It was back then KEATON gave us his thoughts about stepping into the role and doing a “reboot” rather than a “sequel.” (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

Out Of The Vaults: Birthday Boy Macaulay Culkin Recalls Shopping Spree With Michael Jackson

culkinIt’s just come to our attention that former child star MACAULAY CULKIN turns 32 years old today. First introduced to audiences in such ’80s films as ROCKET GIBRALTER and UNCLE BUCK, he catapulted to superstardom as the star of such ’90s staples as ONLY THE LONELY, MY GIRL and, of course, the HOME ALONE franchise. Known for his close, personal friendship with MICHAEL JACKSON and his squabbles with controlling parental units, CULKIN became a favorite of the tabloids before slipping into relative obscurity. Now, only the occasional TV or film acting gig draws him out of semi-retirement.
Dipping into the vaults, we were reminded that we first sat down with the young star well  over twenty years ago and during one of our many conversations, he talked about going on a shopping spree at a major toy store with The King Of Pop. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

Surprise-a-day Oprah Winfrey introduced her sister today.  That is, the sister she never knew she had.

Seems Winfrey‘s mother never told her about this half sister named Patricia.  That’s because Patricia spent her early life in orphanages and foster homes until she was finally adopted at seven.

Oprah‘s mother only recently revealed the existence Patricia.

On her show, Winfrey led her mother and Patricia to the stage for a frank and emotional discussion where they all reunited.
