Carrie Underwood: Without ‘Idol,’ She’s Nothing

Although it didn’t really deliver on its promise in its later years, American Idol definitely made good on its subtitle — “The Search for a Superstar” — in its early days. Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, and Carrie Underwood were all among the show’s discoveries, and Underwood doesn’t think she could have made it as a singer any other way. With a new network and new judges, will American Idol recapture the magic and find another superstar? New episodes air Sunday and Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.

Wesley Snipes Recalls His ‘Bad’ Time with Michael Jackson

13It is hard to believe that it’s been over 25 years since Michael Jackson’s hit single, Bad, was released. The single was a number one hit for two weeks. What many may not remember is that the 18 minute video, which was directed by legendary director and Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese, starred a young (and at the time relatively unknown) Wesley Snipes, who from there, went on to Hollywood stardom.

Snipes, who is rumored to star in The Expendables 3 and his next film, Gallowwalkers, is scheduled to be released August 13, recalls filming the video and the great experience. He says that he was blown away by Michael Jackson’s work ethic, which he tries to emulate in his own career. (Click on the media bar below to hear Wesley Snipes)

Snipes went on to say that he thinks Michael Jackson was an angel that was sent to us, and that people should reflect on how they treated him. He also said that Jackson was a culture icon, not just in music, but that he represented so much more.

Jason Derulo’s Teachers’ Didn’t Believe in His Dream

132364_3303Jason Derulo is one of the most diverse performers in music today. He has all the ingredients which make a great music star–a great voice and he is an amazing dancer. When he was younger, Derulo attended a performing arts school, where one would think he had all the support from the teachers who taught him. But Derulo says this was not the case. His teachers did not think it was possible for him to be a pop star, and tried to steer him to be a classical performer or even a teacher. (Click on the media bar to hear Jason Derulo)

Derulo’s new hit, The Other Side, is nearing the top of the charts. Check out the video for the single!
