Although we probably know more than we ever thought we would about the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, Dateline is presenting an even more detailed report on the bride-to-be tonight (7:00 p.m. ET/PT, NBC).
Dateline correspondent, Dennis Murphy tells HollywoodOutbreak.com that the news magazine will cover everything – from her humble beginnings to the present. And if you think she’ll be living a life of privilege…well…of course she will…but not without a big price tag.
“She understands what’s coming, but wait until she gets inside the bubble itself,” Murphy begins. “The royal commentators say she will not be able to dash off to the Caribbean to get some sun. She can’t go with her friends to Austria to go skiing. She won’t be able to leave the country without the permission of the royal family, the prime minister; she’s going to be followed by plain coat guys with guns in the Land Rover behind her. If she is bored stiff watching the 15th child dance troop she cannot yawn because the cameras will take an embarrassing picture of her. She is going to be exposed to more scrutiny than she has ever imagined before and she’s gotten her share of it.”
In fact, Murphy says, the prince has deliberately immersed her into the life of the royals to see if she could handle the demands.
“People that know them say that a lot of this courtship was him exposing her to the life…his life inside the bubble,” Murphy explains. “The shooting weekends up in Scotland with the family. The placing of the wreath, the dedication of this building or that. ‘Are you ready to do this?’ was a lot of the conversation.”
Luckily for Middleton, Queen Elizabeth actually likes her, Murphy says with conviction.
And this wedding is a huge deal in the U.K. Though many Brits pooh-pooh the upcoming nuptials, Murphy says secretly most everyone is thrilled at what this wedding means to the country.
“Just on the level of the Piccadilly souvenirs, the tea towels and the coffee mugs, they’ve sort of already absorbed all of this, “ Murphy acknowledges. “I don’t know if they’re a little bit jaundiced because they’ve had so much royals, so much of a train wreck story from Buckingham Palace over the last two decades with Queen Elizabeth’s children. There may be a little eye rolling. Having said that, they’re going to have the day off. Friday is a holiday and Monday is going to be a holiday, too. So, there is an incentive for a good time was had by all.”
