Lizzie Borden dominates Netflix once again as Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story remains at the top of the English TV chart for a second consecutive week. The Netflix series pulled in 14.5 million views, with its audience actually growing from the previous week.
The fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series stars Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, the Massachusetts woman who was charged with murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in 1892. More than a century later, the case clearly still knows how to grab an audience, and Lizzie Borden remains No. 1 in the latest Netflix Top 10 rankings.
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story was also far from the only true-crime title attracting attention on Netflix this week.
Lizzie Borden leads Netflix as UNABOMBER tops the movie chart
UNABOMBER debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s English-language movie chart with 16.4 million views. The drama stars Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay, Annabelle Wallis and Shailene Woodley and follows the life of Ted Kaczynski, tracing his path from a teenage Harvard prodigy to the domestic terrorist responsible for a years-long bombing campaign.
While Lizzie Borden leads Netflix on the English TV side, UNABOMBER immediately became Netflix’s biggest English-language movie of the week. The two titles gave true-crime and true-story-inspired dramas a major presence across the latest Netflix rankings.
With Monster continuing to hold the television crown, Lizzie Borden dominates another major week for Netflix viewing.
Netflix Top 10 welcomes Wonka’s The Golden Ticket
Netflix also had a strong debut from something much lighter. Wonka’s The Golden Ticket entered the Netflix English TV Top 10 at No. 2 with 4.6 million views.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the competition series brings 12 golden ticket winners inside the famous Chocolate Factory. The contestants then compete for a prize that sounds very Wonka-like: a lifetime supply of money.
That is certainly one way to make finding a golden ticket even more stressful.
Lizzie Borden stays No. 1 as A Different World debuts
Another familiar title also made an impressive entrance on the Netflix TV chart. A Different World debuted at No. 4 with 4.2 million views while Lizzie Borden stays No. 1 with Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.
The sequel to the beloved 1980s and ’90s sitcom introduces a new generation of students at Hillman College while keeping some important connections to the original series. Maleah Joi Moon stars as Deborah, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, with Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy returning as the iconic couple.
The series is also getting attention for its new opening theme performed by Brandy, giving the revival another connection to the era that made the original show such a cultural favorite.
Netflix rankings keep Best of the Best and The Whisper Man strong
Best of the Best climbed to No. 2 on Netflix’s English movie chart with 7.3 million views. Co-written by star Hasan Minhaj, the comedy also features Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia as childhood best friends who join UCLA’s highly competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team.
Meanwhile, The Whisper Man continued its run in the Netflix Top 10. The crime thriller starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan and Adam Scott landed at No. 5 with 4 million views.
Netflix Top 10 keeps familiar favorites in the mix
Crew Girl continued to show staying power during its third consecutive week on the English TV chart, finishing at No. 3. The young adult drama follows a talented teenager, played by Miku Martineau, who attempts to revive her rowing ambitions by joining a boys’ varsity crew team.
The Gentlemen also remained popular, with Season 2 landing at No. 5 while the first season returned to the Netflix weekly Top 10 as well. That gives Netflix a mix of true crime, comedy, competition shows, returning franchises and familiar favorites all performing at the same time.
For the second consecutive week, though, Lizzie Borden dominates the English TV rankings. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story continues to hold the top spot, giving the infamous 19th-century case another moment at the center of pop culture.
