With the teams beginning to fill up, every chair turn suddenly mattered a little more. The Voice Season 30 also had one major question hanging over the night: When would Riley Green finally use his First In button?
He had been the only coach still holding onto the new advantage.
That changed.
But before Riley made his move, The Voice Night 4 delivered 13 new performances, several multi chair battles, some surprising team picks and another four chair audition to close out the episode.
Here is how The Voice Season 30 Night 4 Blind Auditions played out.
The Voice Season 30 starts Night 4 with a four chair turn
Night 4 opened with exactly the kind of audition that gets every coach involved.
Thirty five year old Cade Mower performed “Something in the Orange,” and all four chairs turned.
Adam Levine tried to convince Cade that an unexpected coach and artist pairing could work in his favor.
Queen Latifah countered with a similar argument. She believed she might be an even more unexpected fit and thought Cade had the potential to go far.
Riley Green went in a different direction.
He connected with Cade as a songwriter and even hinted that there could be opportunities beyond the competition.
That connection won out.
Cade chose Riley Green.
The Voice Blind Auditions send Bryan Jaymes to Queen Latifah
Thirty nine year old Bryan Jaymes performed “Every Time You Go Away.”
His performance earned turns from Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
Latifah liked the way Bryan made the song his own and controlled the room throughout the performance.
Green was drawn to the smoothness and individuality in his voice.
Even Kelly Clarkson, who didn’t turn, praised Bryan’s range while offering advice about giving some of his vocal runs more room.
Adam also liked the creativity Bryan brought to the audition.
When it came time to choose, Bryan joined Queen Latifah.
The Voice First In button finally belongs to Riley Green
Fifteen year old Allie Rae brought “Black Velvet” to The Voice Season 30 and quickly created another coach battle.
Riley Green, Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah all turned.
Kelly liked how the song gave Allie enough space to show different sides of her voice.
Latifah appreciated that Allie stayed within her natural tone rather than forcing the performance.
Riley connected with her musical influences and liked the idea that she could make familiar songs sound like her own.
Then Kelly and Latifah started fighting for her.
Riley decided he had waited long enough.
He used his First In button.
That automatically placed Allie Rae on Team Riley and meant every Season 30 coach had now used the new First In twist.
Connor Closs joins Team Adam
Twenty three year old Connor Closs performed “Too Sweet.”
Adam Levine and Riley Green turned.
Riley liked that Connor chose a difficult song and still managed to make it work.
Adam focused on how effectively Connor handled the chorus and believed they shared similar instincts when approaching a song.
Connor chose Adam Levine.
Serrin Joy leaves The Voice Night 4 without a team
Twenty four year old Serrin Joy performed “Be Without You,” but none of the coaches turned.
Kelly Clarkson still heard several interesting qualities in Serrin’s voice.
She liked the combination of rasp, lightness and fullness in her tone.
The issue was that so much was happening vocally that Serrin seemed to be chasing the song instead of settling comfortably into it.
Her The Voice Season 30 journey ended at the Blind Auditions.
Saade surprises Kelly Clarkson
Twenty four year old Saade performed “Oscar Winning Tears” and earned turns from Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
Adam Levine didn’t turn.
He later explained that he didn’t completely understand the theatrical direction of the performance until the other coaches were already involved.
Ironically, Saade revealed that Adam had been the coach she was hoping would turn.
Latifah talked about helping her find songs that would allow her to express herself.
Green called it one of the most powerful vocals he had heard.
Clarkson focused on helping Saade learn when to pull back instead of going big on every note.
Saade chose Kelly Clarkson.
The Voice Season 30 adds Everett Bounds to Team Riley
Twenty three year old Everett Bounds performed “Drivin’ My Life Away.”
Only Riley Green turned.
The other coaches seemed to understand why.
Adam Levine suggested Everett’s sound made Riley the obvious coach, while Kelly Clarkson still made it clear that she liked his voice.
Green heard an energy in Everett that wasn’t already represented on his team.
With Riley as the only coach to turn, Everett automatically joined Team Riley.
Sophia Liano chooses Queen Latifah
Twenty two year old Sophia Liano took on “I Surrender.”
Her performance earned turns from Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
Latifah focused on the emotion Sophia brought to the song and her ability to make the audience invest in the performance.
That pitch was enough.
Sophia chose Queen Latifah.
Anna McElroy gives Kelly Clarkson a surprising country win
Twenty six year old Anna McElroy performed “80s Mercedes.”
Queen Latifah, Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green all turned.
Kelly had already watched plenty of country artists choose Riley during The Voice Season 30, so she wasn’t about to make this decision easy for him.
She even tried to keep Anna’s attention away from Riley while the coaches made their pitches.
Adam Levine encouraged Anna not to automatically choose the country coach.
Latifah praised the performance and believed Anna could fit into several different musical spaces.
Riley had a simpler argument.
The fact that everyone was trying so hard to keep Anna away from him might have been proof that she belonged on his team.
This time, however, Riley lost the country battle.
Anna chose Kelly Clarkson.
Julia Clark finds the right fit with Adam Levine
Twenty four year old Julia Clark performed “bellyache.”
Queen Latifah and Adam Levine turned.
Latifah immediately connected with Julia’s sound and said it was the kind of music she could imagine listening to herself.
Adam was drawn to the personality and joy in Julia’s voice.
Julia felt that Adam was closer to the musical direction she wanted to pursue.
She chose Adam Levine.
Cal Cook gets Adam Levine all to himself
Twenty eight year old Cal Cook performed “The Dress.”
Only Adam Levine turned.
Adam praised how precise Cal was throughout the performance and liked the attention he gave to both tone and melody.
There was no coach battle this time.
Cal automatically joined Team Adam.
Brett Tomberlin leaves The Voice Blind Auditions without a chair turn
Twenty nine year old Brett Tomberlin performed “Your Man.”
None of the coaches turned.
Riley Green thought the beginning was difficult but felt Brett became more comfortable as the song continued.
Kelly Clarkson encouraged him to keep performing live.
She believed more experience could help him work through the pitch issues the coaches heard.
Brett’s Blind Audition ended without a team.
The Voice four chair turn closes Night 4 with Chari
The final performance of The Voice Night 4 belonged to Chari.
The 31 year old singer performed “Get Here.”
All four coaches turned.
Adam Levine tried to build a personal connection while also leaning on his years of experience as a coach.
Riley Green praised the strength of Chari’s voice.
Kelly Clarkson was equally impressed by the audition.
Queen Latifah took a more emotional approach.
She thanked Chari for bringing something special into the room and made it clear that regardless of which coach she picked, Chari belonged in the competition.
That connection helped Queen win the final battle of the night.
Chari chose Queen Latifah.
The Voice Season 30 teams after Night 4
The Voice Season 30 teams are getting crowded, with three coaches now tied at eight artists apiece.
Team Kelly Clarkson includes Anna McElroy, Brianna Cameron, Brooklyn Marie, Hazel Gerson, Johnnie Kapua, Koumba Diallo, Kyle Davis and Saade.
Over on Team Riley Green are Allie Rae, Cade Mower, Caroline Alexis, Everett Bounds, Ferryn and Brinkley, Harmony McKee, Joe Henley and Kenna Elpers.
Queen Latifah also has eight artists: Alt Bloom, BigCountry, Bryan Jaymes, Chari, Marcus Ladden Jr., Mia Knight, Morgan Lett and Sophia Liano.
Meanwhile, Adam Levine currently has seven singers: Amanda Mikkel, Cal Cook, Connor Closs, Destinee Monroe, Julia Clark, Lexi Stephens and Owen Uffens.
Night 4 finally saw Riley Green use his First In button, Kelly Clarkson score a surprising country win and Queen Latifah close the episode by landing another four chair artist.
With The Voice Season 30 teams filling up fast, every remaining Blind Audition now carries a little more pressure.
And as the coaches get closer to completing their teams, every chair turn matters more than ever.
The Voice airs Monday nights at 8/7c on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock.
