After Kevin Smith suffered a severe heart attack a few years ago, he decided to make the experience an important plot point as he revamped the script for Clerks III. Having had a brush with mortality, Smith told us that, in the new movie, it was important for him to explore the idea of living in the moment, and he hopes that people who see Clerks III walk out of the theater with a greater appreciation for life.
