Sam Waterston: Why ‘Law & Order’ Shows Stay Successful

America has been watching Law & Order shows ever since 1990, when the original show first premiered. And there hasn’t been a break since — although Law & Order signed off after 20 seasons, Law & Order: SVU and a host of other spinoffs have kept the franchise going strong. Sam Waterston, who joined Law & Order in its fifth season and is back for the show’s revival, says there’s a really simple reason why Law & Order and its progeny have endured for more than three decades.
