When Patricia Heaton was in her 20s, she got her first starring role in a network television comedy. It was called Room For Two, and she starred as a TV producer whose widowed mother moved in with her. The actress playing her mother was two-time Golden Globe Award winner Linda Lavin, who famously starred in the series Alice after making a name for herself on the stages of Broadway. At the time, Heaton couldn’t believe her good fortune, and things got even better when Lavin took Heaton under her wing as a mentor, advisor, and — above all — a really great friend.
