Queen & Slim centers on a lawyer named Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) who goes on a Tinder date with Slim (Daniel Kaluuya), a blue collar guy who’s also looking for love. Their evening turns tragic after Slim kills a police officer in self defense. Directed by Melina Matsoukas and penned by Lena Waithe (The Chi), the feature immediately stood out to Kaluuya.

“It felt radical,” said Kaluuya, whose credits include Get Out and Black Panther. “If I was working at a bank, I’d watch this, which is kind of my litmus test for all kind of scripts that I read. It’s like do my friends that work on trains or I’ve grown up with, would they be excited about it?”
