While some names from World War II, like General McArthur’s, have become extremely well-known, most of the WWII heroes who fought on the front lines served and have lived in near anonymity. Their families have heard their stories, and maybe some have made Veteran’s Day headlines in local newspapers, but by and large, many of their tales have gone untold. Though it focuses on just one major battle during the war, Midway brings some of those heroes to light on the big screen, and Darren Criss says he felt a great responsibility stepping into the shoes of a real-life war hero.
