For five years, Arsenio Hall and Johnny Carson were competitors in the late night game — Carson, of course, on The Tonight Show and Hall on his syndicated Arsenio Hall Show. Actually, that was their third time competing, since Hall was a regular on Alan Thicke’s short-lived Thicke of the Night and had a 13-week run as host of The Late Show in 1987. But Carson was a hero of Hall’s, and even though they did battle in the late night wars, the last thing Hall ever wanted was the have the living legend as his enemy. However, thanks to their famous mutual friend, Ed McMahon, Hall discovered that was far from being the case. (Click on the media bar below to hear Arsenio Hall)

Hall’s new comedy special, Arsenio Hall: Smart & Classy, is streaming now on Netflix.
