Alexandra Shipp’s run as Storm continues with Dark Phoenix, and though much has been made of Sophia Turner taking on the role of Jean Grey, Shipp took on a role that was originally fleshed out by Halle Berry. Shipp, who was also seen in the Olivia Milch (screenwriter of Ocean’s Eight) directed feature Dude, talked about what has made the X-Men franchise resonate with audiences.

“I think that the X-Men are a great representation of other,” said Shipp, who also starred in the cult favorite Tragedy Girls. “And can kind of show what that civil unrest looks like when we are put in a box or labeled as bad guys or good guys. I think a lot of people, especially in today’s day and age can relate to that, understanding that they don’t want to be categorized and they just want to live their life as equally as the person standing next to them.”
