We’ve seen plenty of musical biopics in the last decade or so, movies like Get On Up (James Brown), Ray (Ray Charles), Walk the Line (Johnny Cash), Straight Outta Compton (N.W.A.), and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen). All of those films have stayed true to the biopic genre, telling the life stories of their subjects. But when Elton John decided to sanction a movie based on his life, he wanted things to be different. He didn’t want to go the straight biopic route, he says, so what Rocketman has become is kind of a hybrid movie with the focus on the music. (Click on the media bar below to hear Elton John)
Rocketman opens in theaters on May 31.
