Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison has written her share of acclaimed novels (Sula, Song of Solomon, Beloved), and now her life is front and center with the upcoming documentary Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am.
The film is directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart), who has been a friend of Morrison for over 35 years. Along with this personal connection, the feature contains interviews with Angela Davis, Walter Mosley, Hilton Als, Fran Lebowitz, and Winfrey. The 1998 feature Beloved, starring and produced by Winfrey, is an adaptation of Morrison’s novel.
The trailer showcases Morrison’s determination to be a writer while raising a family, and her success would lead her to the highest ranks of the publishing industry (she was also a teacher at Princeton University). Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!
