Want the Hollywood definition of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”? Just look at the choice Keanu Reeves had with Speed 2. After starring in the blockbuster original film, of course the studio was hoping he’d return for a second film. But Reeves wasn’t interested. He turned the film down, and the sequel was a real disappointment at the box office. After that, he told GQ magazine, he was in “movie jail,” where Fox refused to work with him for over a decade. Of course, the studio blackballing didn’t hurt his career too much, as he soon found himself in the Matrix franchise. And he might have actually spared himself a career-killing debacle — after all, Sandra Bullock told us one of the hardest things she ever had to do was promote Speed 2, which she thought wasn’t very good at all.
