Bryce Dallas Howard has dealt with dinosaurs (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and dragons (Pete’s Dragon), and now with A Dog’s Way Home she is literally man’s best friend. The actress is the voice of Bella, a canine who is determined to make it back home to her owner (Jonah Hauer-King). The picture is based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron (who also co-wrote the script).

“Having pets is one of the most important aspects of my life in being a person and getting to be alive in the world,” said Howard. “Having a relationship with a pet or animals – there is nothing like it in the world. Nothing feels more unconditional or safe and fun honestly.”

A Dog’s Way Home, co-starring Ashley Judd and Alexandra Shipp, opens nationwide January 11.
