Gene Rodenberry probably wasn’t thinking about it at the time, but it was certainly a happy accident that, when he was envisioning the original Star Trek characters, he gave the Vulcan race a lifespan of hundreds of Earth years. Because of that, the iconic character of Spock has been able to live within the universes of several different Star Trek ventures. The latest is Star Trek: Discovery. The new series is set a decade prior to Roddenberry’s original, so while the James T. Kirk character wouldn’t have been in Starfleet yet, the long-lived Spock is already there and will show up in Discovery’s second season. Ethan Peck plays young Spock, and he told us he feels a great responsibility to make sure his portrayal lives up to the character’s legend. (Click on the media bar below to hear Ethan Peck)
The second season of Star Trek: Discovery begins streaming January 17 on CBS All Access.
