Famed author Rudyard Kipling first introduced the character of Mowgli in a short story 125 years ago, then made him famous in his two Jungle Book stories. Since then, the character has appeared in several TV and movie adaptations, and no two of them have been alike. The newest is Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, a Netflix production directed by Andy Serkis. Christian Bale stars in the film, and he told us this version of Mowgli is closer to Kipling’s written version of the character than anything we’ve ever seen on the screen.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle starts streaming Friday on Netflix.
