Gauguin: Voyage To Tahiti, which features internationally renowned actor Vincent Cassel (Ocean’s Twelve, La Haine) as the celebrated artist, hits Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms November 6 via the Cohen Media Group.
Frustrated with the modern world, Gauguin left his wife and children in 1891 to travel to Tahiti where he encounters the native Polynesians and enters a relationship with a young girl named Tehura (she would become his artistic music). After his initial two year excursion to the island, he would return to Tahiti in 1895 (Gauguin died in Marquesas Islands in 1903). Cassel lost 44 pounds, on mainly a diet of fruit and raw fish, in preparation for the role. Donald Sutherland (Oviri), son Kiefer Sutherland (Paradise Found), and Anthony Quinn (Lust for Life) have also played Gauguin in previous films.
Extras on the release include the featurettes “Vincent Cassel Is Gauguin” and “Life and Painting of Gauguin.”
