Gale Anne Hurd is one of Hollywood’s most successful producers, and her early career was marked with the success in producing The Terminator (and subsequently Terminator 2). Hurd also produced the underrated Brian De Palma thriller Raising Cain and, more recently, is an executive producer on the series Fear The Walking Dead.
Hurd’s early influences include a fellow female producer who also left her mark on the business. “When I first began in the film business, one of my closest friends and mentors was Debra Hill who co-wrote and produced Halloween,” said Hurd. “What really inspires me is back in a time when women weren’t really starring in films – Jamie Lee Curtis was the star of Halloween and she fought back. I love the fact that these kinds of films inspire young women to not give up their power, to fight back, and to not be taken advantage of.”
Hell Fest, headlined by Amy Forsyth (Rise), centers on a masked serial killer who terrorizes a group of friends and patrons at an amusement park. Click on the media bar to hear Hurd discuss the movie’s appeal.
Hell Fest opens nationwide September 28.
