A Simple Favor centers on Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a single mom and vlogger who befriends another mom named Emily (Blake Lively). With a high powered job in New York and an attractive writer husband to boot (Henry Golding), Emily seems to have it all – until she goes missing. It’s up to Stephanie to put the puzzle together behind her new friend’s disappearance, even if it leads her down an expectedly troublesome and dangerous path.
Directed by Spy filmmaker Paul Feig, A Simple Favor does have its share of suspense thriller moments, but it also has a comedic light touch that is part of Feig’s body of work. “There are definitely moments that will make you laugh,” said Kendrick. “But I wouldn’t describe it as a funny movie because it’s so dark. Movies like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – thrillers where I feel like there’s a smile on your face the entire time. That’s one of those subgenres that is really tricky and I think one of the most entertaining.”
