Though Switchfoot members Tim and Jon Foreman are currently on hiatus after 20 years of touring and creating music, they found the time to contribute the song “You Found Me” for the new film Unbroken: Path to Redemption. The feature continues the true story of Olympian Louis Zamperini (Samuel Hunt) as he struggles with life after coming home from World War II.
“We were familiar with Louis’ amazing story since we were young through our grandfather who was a POW as well in World War II,” said Tim Foreman. “He was shot down flying the same planes that Louis was shot down in. He was a POW for several years, so Louis’ story was circulated within our family as kind of a window to our grandfather’s story. We could kind of see a different side of his story – some of the stories that our grandfather didn’t tell us. It’s got a lot of personal meaning to us and to ask to be a part of that was a real honor.”
Writing and composing “You Found Me” wasn’t a refreshingly organic and streamlined process for the musicians. Unbroken: Path to Redemption, co-starring Merritt Paterson, opens nationwide September 14.
