Director Angelina Jolie’s 2014 feature Unbroken told the true story of Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell), an Olympian who survived World War II against all odds. Zamperini’s resolve is tested when he returns home, and his bouts with alcoholism and PTSD are chronicled in Unbroken: Path To Redemption. The Royals’ vet Merritt Patterson co-stars as Louis’ loving and strong willed wife Cynthia.
Actor Samuel Hunt, who plays Zamperini in Unbroken: Path To Redemption, believes Zamperini’s struggles connects on a universal level. “We all have experience trauma,” said Hunt. “We have all experienced heartache and oftentimes it makes us better. What we don’t always deal with or we don’t usually understand is that there is a second wave that comes from our perseverance and from our victories. Sometimes that second wave is the thing that will force us to make the most growth and step into our true selves.”
