Since its August 10 release, BlacKkKlansman has generated $25 million domestically, and the film continues its forward momentum thanks to great word of mouth from critics and audiences alike.
Jordan Peele, who directed last year’s critically acclaimed and box office hit Get Out, produced the feature. “The first thing we had to do was sort of link this project up with the right director,” said Peele. “At the top of my list was Spike Lee. I felt that this movie had so much common with Spike’s work tonally. It’s funny. It’s suspenseful. It’s powerful and it exists in this genre space and at the same time it’s a true story.”
Based on the memoir Black Klansman by former detective Ron Stallworth (played in the film by John David Washington), BlacKkKlansman is now playing nationwide.
