Quentin Tarantino loves movies. All kinds of movies. You can tell by the way he lovingly and meticulously crafts movies in all kinds of genres, paying homage to Hollywood’s history in each one. He’s currently directing a movie that centers on Hollywood itself. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a period piece, set in the late 1960s, with an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, James Marsden, and Damian Lewis. As with so many of his movies, Tarantino wrote the story himself, and he talked to us about the way he chooses a genre when he sits down to work on a screenplay.
